Building on extensive world travel and a deep-rooted spiritual connection with the natural world, his career has been a journey of exploration and constant curiosity. After studying art history at Yale, John followed his polymath passion for sculpture, theater arts and music to New York City, where he coordinated high-profile architectural projects and became deeply immersed in the world of art and design. It was inevitable that John would establish his own studio, a creative laboratory in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. In 2003, a comprehensive woodworking facility with sawmills, fabrication, and finishing areas took shape, encompassing CAD workstations and state-of-the-art equipment for metalworking, assembly, and photography, and 950 acres of fields and woodland. Visitors are welcome! John’s goal has always been to perfect the path between an idea and its execution. In his estimation, clients should feel free to propose the most exotic concepts, combinations of materials or the most heroic dimensions. The JOHNHOUSHMAND studio has functioned for years as a source of elegant solutions, a unique campus where creative collaboration is paramount and the highest aspiration is to make the most artistic furniture and architectural features in the world.
